Adeyfield School - Business Enterprise College & Applied Learning Specialism

Welcome to the Adeyfield School Website

Dear Parents and Carers

This half term has started as the last had finished - with a flourish of activity around school!

The ski trip returned having enjoyed a fantastic week away on the slopes. It has been great to hear their stories, how their skiing prowess developed and some talking about looking to pursue an opportunity of working as a ski instructor for a season before taking on the next step in their educational careers. A huge thanks to Mr Armitage and Mr Hutchinson for all their organising and work in putting this opportunity together, as well as Miss Hare, for giving up their half term to take our students on he ski trip. Plans are already in motion for the next ski this space for further details!

These past two weeks have seen some exciting new appointments in the development of the school. I am delighted to announce that Mr Bobby Crawford will being joining us in the role of Vice Principal in the summer term and Mr Cline has been appointed Associate Vice Principal with immediate effect. Congratulations to both on their appointments. We are in the middle of our recruitment for vacancies ready for September and look forward to reporting on appointments in due course.

Last week was National Careers Week. Students had the chance to explore what opportunities they may wish to explore within the world of work. Year 7 engaged in a very successful speed networking event, Year 8 girls enjoyed a Women in Careers event run at STAGS, and some of our Post 16 students had the opportunity to attend the Apprenticeship Fair at the University of Hertfordshire. With Year 10 Employability week fast approaching we recognise how important such opportunities are in providing help and support to establish career pathways and opportunities to our young people. I would like to thank all the businesses and employers who have supported these events this week.

Our work within the Atlas MAT continues to grow and develop. The benefits of this are already being seen in and around the school, both in terms of the building but also teaching and learning support and development. This is a very exciting time to be part of the Adeyfield community. As part of this development from September 2019 we will be known as The Adeyfield Academy. With this change brings some exciting opportunities to be able to re-brand the school. Part of this re-branding will include some changes to our school uniform. Stevenson's Uniform Suppliers will be our new uniform provider. From 25 March we will have the new proposed uniform on display in reception. There has been a student working-party developing the new design in conjunction with the uniform suppliers, and we are grateful to the team for all their hard work. Please see inside APA for further details regarding the design and changes.

Looking ahead to events in the next few weeks, Year 9 Options Evening is this Thursday 14 March at 6.30pm. I would like to encourage all Year 9 students and parents to attend to hear about the new curriculum structure and subject choices available to you as you begin Key Stage 4 in September.

I look forward to updating you on the success of our students involved in the national Maths Challenge, the Rotary Technology Challenge and the GCSE Drama trip.

Thank you for all your continued support.
